College’s musical groups present ‘Talking ‘Bout My Generation’ concert

April 5, 2024

Jackson Community Concert Band, Vocal Point, Jazzy Jets & Drumline perform April 14

Take a journey through music when four Jackson College musical ensembles come together for “Talking ‘Bout My Generation,” a concert celebration on Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center.

Enjoy the sounds of the Jackson College Community Concert Band, Vocal Point concert choir, Jazzy Jets jazz band, and the JC Drumline. The program is packed with selections of musical favorites through the ages! A small sampling include Vocal Point’s “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Dancin’ into the ‘20’s: A Ragtime Dance Music Revue” by the Community Concert Band, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by the Jazzy Jets, a collaboration between the band and Vocal Point on “British Influence,” and much, much more!

“Bringing all our JC ensembles together has been a goal each year; adding in guest stars Jasmine Hass and Emma Brugger for the ‘fiddle battle’ and real rock stars Scott Moran (vocalist) and JD Boone (guitarist/vocalist) of FLYTE made perfect sense this concert cycle,” said Director of Instrumental Activities and Professor of Music Dan Bickel. “Our Jazzy Jets have already benefitted from working with seasoned professionals which is a crucial part of musical growth. The individual selections, guest conductors, and collaborations have added a sense of excitement that I believe our groups will share with the audience.

“We’re also excited to present the world premier of composer Tim Howard’s ‘Power and Dominion,’ under his leadership. How much more ‘my generation’ can you get?”

The concert is free, and all are welcome.

The Jackson College Community Concert Band and the Jazzy Jets are comprised of both college students and community members, under the leadership of director Dan Bickel. Vocal Point is the College’s concert choir, directed by Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music Dr. Richard Hintze. JC Drumline is led by Jack Tallman, also a member of the Detroit Lions Drumline. The College has a variety of musical ensembles for students and community members.
